Non-drug remedies include education and self management; physical therapy including appropriate exercise; muscle strengthening exercises that improve motion and increase mobility; walking aids such as cranes and crutches; footwear and insoles that can improve walking; knee braces that reduce the risk of falling and increase stability of the knee; and heat and cold packs that ease pain.
Medical treatments include analgesics, non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, corticosteroid injections, and surgery.
