What causes bruising?
When we bump or hit something, small blood vessels under the skin rupture causing us to bruise. Blood leaks into tissues causing that black and blue colour that takes days to heal. Bruises can be purplish black, reddish blue or yellowish green but normally heal within 2 to 4 weeks. Severe bruising, swelling and pain however can indicate a serious problem, especially 30 minutes after an injury.
Bruising easily does not necessarily indicate a serious problem, especially if the bruising is minimal. Some people who bruise easily may not even remember what caused the bruise. As we age we may tend to bruise more easily, as the skin becomes less flexible and blood vessels break more easily. Gender is also a factor, as women bruise more easily than men.
Bruising can be helped by application of a cold pack right after the injury. There are also a range of medications and natural remedies available to help. Browse our range above and choose the product to suit you best. Page updated 16/07/19 4:04:58 am
