Dry skin causes include:

  • Harsh soaps
  • Itchy clothing
  • Not using moisturiser properly
  • Long and hot showers
  • Some medications
  • Strong body lotion
  • Underlying conditions

Dry skin remedies

There are topical and oral antibiotics that can help relieve infected dry skin. There are also
home remedies that can help to relieve dry skin not caused by infections.  These include avoiding long, hot showers or baths and using moisturisers directly after your shower or bath.

Best moisturisers for dry skin

Choosing the best moisturiser to use depends on your skin type. Dry skin types need daily intense
hydration that lasts all day without causing greasiness or breakouts. Oily skin types need to
use moisturiser less frequently, but still the skin needs hydration. Using a light moisturiser
with oil control properties will keep the moisture on the skin balanced. And sensitive skin types need moisturisers that do not contain added chemicals or preservatives.
