Causes of eczema

Genetic: Having extra amounts of antibodies raises the risk of eczema.

Trigger factors or irritants and allergens such as wool, skin infections, dry skin, sweating, stress, dust, mites, pollen, moulds or foods.

Symptoms of eczema

  • Itching which can result in irritation when scratched.
  • Redness because of the extra blood in the blood vessels.
  • Tiny fluid filled blisters under the skin.
  • Dry and scaly skin.
  • Pale patches on skin due to the abnormal production of skin pigment.

Eczema diet

If you are prone to eczema, food can be both your friend and enemy. Diet may play a big role in triggering eczema or it could also help you reduce the risk. Eczema friendly foods are those that lowers histamine such as bananas, green onions, buckwheat and alkalising foods such as potato and mung beans.

Eczema in children

Eczema in children can occur before the age of 5 and some experience symptoms by age 1. Children who have a history of allergic diseases are prone to developing eczema. Eczema in children can be made worse because of constant scratching so it is very important to find the right products to help reduce the itchiness. Infants with eczema may also develop food allergies. Page updated 10/10/17 5:13:30 a.m.
