Here are some of the recommended tips to help you quit smoking:
  • Do not carry cigarettes.
  • Quit one day at a time.
  • Do not think that you are depriving yourself of smoking.
  • Be proud that you are not a smoker.
  • Be conscious of the triggers such as drinking coffee, alcohol, and social events with people smoking.
  • Flush nicotine out of your system by drinking fruit juice on the first three days.
  • Exercise regularly
  • Go to non smoking places.

Stop smoking timeline

The first week is the hardest week when you quit smoking. You may experience withdrawal symptoms such as depression, restlessness/boredom, nausea, heartburn, moodiness, sore throat, lowered heart rate, tingling in hands and feet, and sweating/having chills. The body is normalising after a long time of constant nicotine exposure. Moving into the second, third and fourth weeks, the symptoms will gradually fade. Once you get through one month of consistent no smoking, it will get easier.
